Abortion

    The first abortion laws in the United States started during the 1820's. These laws made it illegal to get an abortion after the fourth month of pregnancy. During 1873 the Comstock law was passed which banned birth control and any information about birth control. By 1900 abortion was illegal in most of the US. Even so, it is estimated that illegal abortions were preformed as many as 1.2 million times per year. These abortions were often preformed by untrained doctors, which let to death or serious injury. Between 1967 and 1973 abortion laws were repealed in one third of the US and by 1973 abortion was legal in all states. Barack Obama is pro choice meaning that he believes that women deserve the right to decide for themselves if an abortion is necessary. He also believes that states should restrict late term abortions. John McCain believes that abortion should be illegal in the cases of rape, incest, and if the woman's life is in danger.
